Dr. Daniel J. Berger, 89, of Jasper, passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Daniel was born on July 14, 1926 in St. Meinrad, Indiana to Joseph and Verena (Ruxer) Berger. He married Jackie Stewart on June 9, 1951 in St. Louis.

Daniel was a dentist who practiced in Jasper for over 48 years. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, The First District Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and a fellow in the American College of Dentists. He served on the State Board of Dental Examiners for nine years.

He was an Army Air Corp veteran who served in WWII, and a was a member of the American Legion Post #147 in Jasper.

He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1988.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, and a Jasper Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight.

Over the years, he enjoyed photography, traveling, cooking, house boating, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Berger of Jasper; two daughters, Chris Drake and husband David of Huntingburg and Terrie Keusch and husband Mike of Jasper; two sons, Dr. Greg Berger and wife Anne of Jasper and Tom Berger of Jasper; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, JoRean Hoffman and husband John of Jasper; one brother, Harvey Berger and wife Bernita of Jasper.

Preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Joey Berger and Angela Keusch.

Funeral services for Dr. Daniel Berger will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Monday, December 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.
