Psychiatrist Bilal Ahmed, M.D. was recently appointed to the Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. He will serve as a staff psychiatrist with Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services and the new Caring Hands Senior Services.

Dr. Ahmed received his medical degree at King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed a psychiatry residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ahmed completed a fellowship at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana in Geriatric Psychiatry. Since then, he has provided psychiatric treatment to adult and geriatric patients in Tennessee with both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Ahmed also spent some time as the Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

Dr. Ahmed is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in the specialty of Psychiatry and subspecialty of Geriatric Psychiatry.

Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services provides holistic care to patients with primary diagnosis relating to mental health. Services include, outpatient counseling with Memorial Counseling Center, adult inpatient services with the Behavioral Health unit, as well as geriatric services with the new Caring Hands Senior Services unit.

Memorial Hospital’s new Caring Hands Senior Services is a specialized care program located within Memorial Hospital to meet the psychiatric and medical needs of older adults. The unit provides compassionate, respectful treatment in a safe and secure environment where therapeutic interventions are provided to assist seniors to achieve their optimal level of functioning. Conditions treated include confusion, depression, agitation, anxiety, and various forms of dementia.
