Downtown Jasper Construction update
Jasper’s Downtown Revitalization Project is nearing its final stage, with Phase II construction currently underway between 7th and 9th streets on North Main.
This week, crews are finishing the paving of the road base and the intermediate roadway on the main road, as well as at the intersections of 7th and 8th Street. They are also installing traffic signs and beginning to remove construction road signage.
The city plans to reopen Main Street to traffic by the end of this week, just in time for the annual Strassenfest celebration.
The German American Bank drive-thru is set to reopen at the same time as Main Street.
Construction will take a break during Strassenfest week, starting July 28, and pick up again on Aug. 8. Workers will then focus on the 9th Street intersection, including work on stormwater inlets and manholes.
A section of 9th Street and its intersection with Main will be closed for several weeks as the project wraps up. The rest of Main Street will stay open, but with local traffic only north of 8th Street.
East-West truck traffic will be redirected to 15th Street while 9th Street is closed.
The project team assures that people will still be able to access all building entrances on foot throughout the construction.
As always, the construction schedule depends on the weather and availability of materials..
