Douglas St. Angelo, 84

Douglas St. Angelo, 84, peacefully passed from this earth on Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Westminster Oaks Health Center.
He was born on April 6, 1931 to George and Lillian (Salat) St. Angelo in Huntingburg, Indiana.
He attended North Central College, Naperville, Illinois, where he received his B.A. degree with a major in Political Science. There he met his wife, Pat, to whom he was married after his graduation.
He was drafted and served in Korea. After his discharge he enrolled at the University of Chicago where he received a Ph.D. in Political Science. He accepted a teaching position at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. During this time he served as a County Chairman for the Democratic Farmer Labor Party. He also was a fund raiser for Governor Karl Rolvaag’s campaign.
In 1963 they moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he joined the Political Science Faculty at Florida State University. He later became the Faculty Coordinator of the FSU Study Abroad Programs. During this period he was instrumental in purchasing and refurbishing several buildings that now are the FSU Study Center in London.
He was involved in numerous civil rights activities in the Tallahassee community. He was presented the Martin Luther King award from FSU—an award which was deeply meaningful to him. He retired from FSU in 1996.
Doug was preceded in death by his brothers, sister-in-law, and son-in-law George, Gordon and Beatty St. Angelo, and Kenneth Martin.
He is survived by his wife Pat (Schneller), his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Kris St. Angelo of Palm Harbor, Fla; his grandchildren, Melanie, Bryson, JCW, and great granddaughter Violet of Tampa, Fla.; his daughter Jill St. Angelo of Tallahassee; his sister-in-law Betty St. Angelo of Naperville, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Maguire Center at Westminster Oaks, 4449 Meandering Way, Tallahassee, FL 32308. The family will greet guests at a reception which will follow in the lobby.
