Dorothy M. Aufderhar, 95

Dorothy M. Aufderhar, 95, of Jasper, formerly of Huntingburg, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

She was born April 9, 1920 in Huntingburg, to Walter and Adelia (Frick) Heim.

Dorothy graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1938 and was united in marriage to Albert J. Aufderhar on July 28, 1940 at Salem Church.

Dorothy worked as a school secretary at Southridge High School. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women, the Huntingburg Research Club, and the Dubois County Home Economics Club. She was a faithful member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg where she served as past president of the Women’s Guild and as chairwoman of Salem’s 150th Anniversary Committee.

In 1993, the 19th General Synod of the United Church of Christ honored Dorothy by presenting to her the award for Outstanding Lay Woman of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference of churches.

Dorothy enjoyed bird watching, researching genealogy, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Aufderhar, who passed away December 20, 2001; one brother, Don Heim; two sisters, Mildred Springston and Evelyn Meyerholtz; one son-in-law, Terry Eastwood; and one grandson, Justin Todd Eastwood.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve Aufderhar of Ball Ground, Geo. and John (Linda) Aufderhar of Madison, Ala.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jan (John) Weyer of Jasper, Joyce Eastwood of Jasper and Sara Aufderhar of Ocala, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Wilma (Bill) Barnhart of Tell City; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Dorothy Aufderhar will be held at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. The Reverend Mark West will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Church of Christ.
