Dorothy E. Messmer, 95

Dorothy E. Messmer, age 95, of Jasper passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
Dorothy was born on September 3, 1918 in Schnellville, Indiana to Joseph and Matilda (Gunselman) Brosmer. She married Lawrence Messmer on October 5, 1937. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1970.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, and the St. Joseph’s St. Ann’s Society, and the American Legion Post #147 and VFW Post #673 Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed bingo and playing cards, and volunteering at local nursing homes.
She is survived by six daughters, Joyce Theising of Evansville, Patricia Broeker, and her husband, Don, of Huntingburg, Sharon Kluesner, and her husband, Don, of Jasper, Bonnie Budde, and her husband, Dan, of Norris City, Ill., Mary Ellen Merkley, and her husband, Edward, of Jasper, and Constance Welp, and her husband, Ron, of Rosemount, Minn.; four sons, William Messmer and his wife, Roberta, of Richland, Wash., John Messmer and his wife, Betty, of Jasper, Fred Messmer and his wife, Janna, of Jasper, and Alan Messmer and his wife, Kathy, of Celestine; one sister, Veronica Hochgesang, of St. Anthony; one brother, Lawrence Brosmer and his wife, Pauline, of Schnellville; 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sons who died in infancy, two sisters; Catherine Hartings, and Anna Mae Brosmer, four brothers; Philip, Isadore, Cletus, and Edward Brosmer, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dorothy E. Messmer will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m.
