Doris Elaine Goodness, 93

, of Jasper, Indiana, born and raised in Huntingburg, passed away at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at The Timbers of Jasper nursing center in Jasper.
She was born January 5, 1921 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Clarence F. and Edna (Mosby) Koehler. She married Joseph K. Goodness on October 9, 1945 in Albany, Oregon.
During World War II, Doris worked in the eye clinic at Camp Roberts in California. In 1955, she and her husband moved to Jasper. There Doris worked as a receptionist in the optometry office of Dr. Virlee Metzger until her retirement. Doris loved playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs in Jasper. She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, watching professional football, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church; was a volunteer worker at Memorial Hospital in Jasper; and was the 1933 Louisville Times spelling champion for Dubois County.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph K. Goodness, who died in 1989; and one brother, Richard “Dick” Koehler.
She is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Elaine “Lani” (Robert) Cook of Jasper; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Joseph Greg (Debra) Goodness and R. Grayson (Diane) Goodness, both of Jasper; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Doris Goodness will be held at 7:00 p.m. on the Monday after this coming week, December 15, 2014 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.
