Donald McCarthy, 88, Jasper

Donald McCarthy, 88, Jasper, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at St. Charles Health Campus.

He was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Loogootee, to Michael Leonard and Florence (Mudd) McCarthy. He married Rosa (Becerra Angulo) McCarthy.

Mr. McCarthy retired from the U.S. Army. While serving, he spent 20 years on active duty and 10 years on reserve duty. He was a three-war veteran, serving in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed traveling and skeet shooting.

Surviving are his wife, Rosa McCarthy; three sons, Bernard McCarthy of Lexington, Ky., and James McCarthy and John McCarthy, both of Jasper; one sister, Catherine Patterson of Washington; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas McCarthy; two sisters, Helen Fullerton and Clara Doyle; and brother-in-law, Pat Patterson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Barr Township.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
