Dispute leads police to hit-and-run suspect

Ferdinand — Ferdinand police were able to locate a suspect in a hit-and-run case they were investigating Friday evening after being called to investigate a separate disturbance at a residence.

At about 7:49 p.m., Police responded to a hit-and-run on State Road 162 and County Road 825S in which a black Honda car had struck the rear end of a 2011 Honda Pilot. The driver of the struck vehicle, Nathan Reeves, 33, of Club Road, Ferdinand, said the black Honda car had struck his van and then fled south on State Road 162 before turning on Industrial Park Road.

Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

Later that night, Dubois County deputies made contact with a male subject walking southbound near the Ferdinand Inn. He told deputies he had been involved in a verbal confrontation at his residence and had decided to walk to the inn to spend the night.

The authorities decided to go by the residence to make sure things were okay. While at the residence, an officer noticed a black Honda Civic in the parking lot of the apartment complex and was able to confirm it was the one involved in the accident earlier in the evening.

The officers determined that Andrew McClellan, 19, of W. 9th St. Apartment 207, was the driver at the time of the accident. While talking with McClellan, deputies determined he had been drinking and arrested him for minor consumption of alchohol

The Ferdinand Police Department charged McClellan with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving without ever receiving a driver’s license.

He was booked into the Dubois County Security Center.

The Honda Pilot had about $3,500 in damage and the Honda Civic had about $1,500 in damage.
