Displays mark Constitution Week at county libraries

Constitution Week is being celebrated in local libraries with patriotic displays commemorating the signing of the U.S.
Constitution Week is from September 17 to September 23 and each year, local members of the Daughters of the American Revolution assist in having the displays available in Jasper, Dubois, Ferdinand and Huntingburg libraries as well as at the VUJC Library.
In 1955, Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside those dates annually to be dedicated to the observance of Constitution. The annual observance was signed into public law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The goal of the event is to reinforce the ideals behind the document by emphasizing citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution; informing people the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life; and encouraging the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.
The Dubois County Daughters of the American Revolution is comprised of descendants of patriots of the American Revolution. They all share a common bond of having an ancestor who helped contribute to securing the independence of the United States of America. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join.
An eligibility meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Redemption Christian Church; details here.
