Dig Into soil health at a free breakfast & field demonstration in Jasper
Ready to talk dirt over breakfast?
Farmers, landowners, gardeners, and anyone interested in healthier soils are invited to attend the Soil Health Breakfast on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EST at the VUJC CTIM Classroom, 850 College Avenue, Jasper.
Start the morning with a hearty breakfast provided by Braised in a Barn Catering while learning from soil health experts with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Attendees will hear practical strategies for improving soil function, increasing resilience, and making the most of cover crops and conservation practices.
The morning will feature presentations from Amanda Kautz, NRCS State Soil Health Specialist, followed by a hands-on soil pit demonstration led by Travis Gogel, NRCS Southwest Indiana Resource Soil Scientist. Participants will have the opportunity to get in the field, examine soil structure firsthand, and see what healthy soil looks like below the surface.
Whether you manage thousands of acres of cropland or simply enjoy tending a backyard garden, this event offers practical ideas and proven techniques that can be put to use right away.
“This isn’t just a classroom presentation,” organizers said. “It’s a chance to see soil health in action, ask questions, and learn simple practices that can make a real difference on the land.”
