By 8 p.m. supporters of Denny Spinner in his bid for Huntingburg mayor were cheering as returns came in from the Dubois County Courthouse.
When the counting was ?nished, Spinner had carried the night, claiming 772 votes to the 532 votes cast for Democrat challenger Janet Kemp.
In the ?ve district races for the city council, Republicans won four seats: Council-at-Large, Amy Lehr; District 1, Glen Kissling; District 2, Alex Blackgrove, and District 3, Steve McPherron. Councilwoman Linda Summers, representing District 4, was the lone Democrat to win election.
Republicans gathered at Cool Beans in downtown Huntingburg to monitor the vote count and ultimately celebrate their five wins.
When all votes were counted β and five races won β Spinner and all Republicans, including Jim Rueger, candidate in District 4, thanked supporters, voters, and all who offered advice throughout the campaign.
Twenty minutes later, with festivities still in a high gear, Spinner talked with the media, addressing his ?rst orders of business as Mayor of Huntingburg: βThe ?rst thing will be to meet with all city employees, get to know them and begin to develop trust with them.β
