Dennis Knies, 88, of St. Anthony, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, at Cathedral Health Care in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born at Celestine, Indiana on August 10, 1930, to Bernard and Alberta (Heldman) Knies. He married Ruth Persohn and she preceded him in death on December 30, 1998.

Dennis was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and member of St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 where he served as past commander.

He retired from Kimball, formerly the Jasper Corporation.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. Anthony Catholic Church.

He was a former founder and co-owner DML Electronics in Huntingburg and founding member of the St. Anthony Fire Department and life member of the Indiana  Firefighters Association. He previously worked for the St. Anthony Parish and the Hasenour Motor Company.

He is survived by his daughter, Jolene Davis (John) of Huntingburg; sons, Glenn Knies (Karen) and Tim Knies (Yvonne), both of Huntingburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosetta Hasenour, Connie Schroering and Sharon Burger (Jerry), all of Jasper; six brothers, Albert Knies of Huntingburg, Paul Knies (Carol) and Perry Knies (Jane), both of Jasper, Virgil Knies (Frances), Bernard Knies (Diane) and Randall Knies (Janice), all of Celestine; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Knies and Bonnie Knies.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are four brothers, Ernest, Vernon, Jerome and James Knies; and two brothers-in-law, Delmar Schroering and Anthony “Tony” Hasenour.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at l11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Military grave side rites by St. Anthony American Legion Post #493.

Visitation will occur from 9:00 a.m. until service time at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
