Dennis J. Altman, 86, Ferdinand

Dennis J. Altman, 86, Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

He was born in Ferdinand Aug. 27, 1930, to Renus and Mathilda (Mullis) Altman. He married Rita Oeding on April 26, 1958, in St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand.

Mr. Altman was a janitor at Forest Park High School in Ferdinand for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, turtling, preparing meals for friends and family at the German Ridge cabin, building clocks and family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Altman; two sons, Gary (Cathy) Altman and Sam (Trudy) Altman, both of Ferdinand; three daughters, Julie (Doug) Ubelhor of Bristow and Lynn (Joey) Lange and Kym Altman, both of Ferdinand; three sisters, Norine “Inci” Hufnagel of Ferdinand, Aline Satkamp of Dale and Mary Ann “Mitzie” Sliwa of Evansville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Altman, and a sister in childhood, Anna Mae Altman.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
