Deaconess Memorial Medical Center launches new Pediatric Hospitalist Program, enhancing care for hospitalized children and newborns
Jasper–Deaconess Memorial Medical Center announced the launch of its new Pediatric Hospitalist Program, expanding access to specialized inpatient care for children and newborns throughout the region.
Amy Holthouser, MD and Meredith Carnes, PA-C, are now caring for hospitalized pediatric patients and newborns. The team will continue to grow this fall with the addition of two more pediatric providers, further strengthening the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, family-centered care.
In addition to caring for hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents, the pediatric hospitalist team will provide medical care for newborns delivered at Deaconess Memorial, including babies born between 32-35 weeks who require specialized care in Deaconess Memorial’s Level II nursery. Their expertise ensures newborns receive comprehensive evaluation, monitoring, and treatment while working closely with pediatricians, obstetric providers, nursing staff, specialists, and families to support a healthy start.
This commitment to caring for hospitalized infants and children in Jasper and surrounding communities helps our region in multiple ways. Our dedicated outpatient pediatric providers can now focus on pediatric care in the clinic while the inpatient specialists streamline and improve the inpatient care pathways for children. Outpatient and inpatient providers can communicate directly about patients before, during, and after hospitalization to better help families navigate care. Most importantly, keeping families close to home for their child’s care by providing support and quality care decreases stress when it matters most and allows families to focus on the child’s needs.

Dr. Amy Holthouser received her medical degree and completed an internal medicine/pediatrics residency from University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. An award-winning, expert clinician and educator known for her excellence, compassion and teamwork, Dr. Holthouser has served as a pediatric hospitalist and teaching attending for the past 20 years at Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.
Meredith Carnes, PA-C, has over 10 years of healthcare experience serving as a pharmacy tech at Deaconess Memorial. She recently earned her Master of Physician Assistant Science degree at the University of Evansville and completed pediatric hospitalist training at Deaconess Gateway and The Women’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
