Daviess County Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting fatality

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a man trespassing on a property Monday evening.

At approximately 8:17 p.m., on September 2, 2024, Daviess County Central Dispatch received a call from the David Goble residence on State Road 257, just north of the East Fork of the White River bridge in Daviess County. The caller stated a man had pulled into their drive, was armed with a gun and was arguing with her husband.

Mr. Goble told the man, who was later identified as Kevin Wilson, 59, of Washington, to leave his property several times. According to police, Mr. Wilson continued approaching the house and arguing with Mr. Goble.

When he got to the front porch of the house, Mr. Goble observed that Mr. Wilson was pointing a handgun toward him, and in self-defense, Mr. Goble fired two rounds at Mr. Wilson.

Mr. Wilson then retreated near his vehicle and succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. Wilson suffered from mental health issues, said police, and there is no known connection between Mr. Goble and Mr. Wilson.

Once the investigation is complete, a report will be submitted to the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The investigation is continuing.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Washington Police Department, Daviess County Ambulance Service, the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office, the Indiana State Police, and Countryside Wrecker Service.
