Daviess County Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal crash

A three-vehicle crash in Daviess County resulted in the death of an Illinois man.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, they were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 257 and US 50 on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at about 4:41 p.m. for the report of a three-vehicle crash.

Police determined that Gina Graber of Loogootee was driving a 2014 Ford Edge eastbound on US 50 and Daniel Altemeyer of Huntingburg was driving southbound on State Road 257 in a 2015 FedEx truck when a collision occurred between the two vehicles. Jake Kuykendall of Olney, Illinois, was driving a 2023 Honda moped northbound on State Road 257 and was stopped on the south side of the intersection at the time of the collision.

According to police, the collision between the Ford and the FedEx truck forced the FedEx truck to strike the moped. As a result of the collision, Mr. Kuykendall was thrown from the moped.

He was transported to Daviess Community Hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Evansville, where he passed away during the night. Mr. Kuykendall’s family has been notified.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency.

The Indiana State Police are reconstructing the accident.
