David L. Sternberg, 67, Jasper

David L. Sternberg, 67, of Jasper, passed away on the morning of Saturday, July 15, 2023, at home surrounded by family. 

Dave was born in Jasper on July 20, 1955, to Oscar and Viola (Hochgesang) Sternberg.  

He married Kathy Merkel on May 5, 1984, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. 

He was a 1973 graduate of Jasper High School.  e then, for a combined four years, attended school and completed an apprenticeship to become an electrical lineman.  

He was an electrical lineman for Dubois REC for just over 35 years, and his co-workers there became his family.  

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, where he was very active as he was an usher, fried fish for the fish fries, cooked soup for the parish picnic and volunteered for other events at the church. He was a member of the K of C. 

Throughout his life, Dave was active in playing in softball and basketball leagues.   

Dave loved his family and was very avid in his daughter’s lives, especially attending all their sporting events and being there in every way for them. 

He loved his job, enjoyed grilling, being outdoors and in nature, and spending time with his friends. 

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Sternberg of Jasper; two daughters, Megan Sternberg of Bowling Green and Rachel Sternberg of Indianapolis; three sisters, Shirley Quick of Tell City, Karen (Glenn) Seger of Bishop Ga., and Susan Harpenau of Tell City.    

Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother-in-law, Jerry Quick and one nephew and God son, Dan “Danny” Quick. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for David Lee Sternberg will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana.  

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before services from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at the church on Thursday.  

Memorial contributions may be to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
