Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 March meeting minutes

The Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 met for their monthly meeting on Monday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 301 at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Jasper.  Regent Marge Beckman welcomed the members present and called on Chancellor Bev Himsel to lead the group in prayer.  After the prayer, members recited the Pledge of Allegiance together.

Two ladies were introduced, wishing to join the Daughters of Isabella. Jane Hoffman and Adi Marie Harper were then welcomed into the Circle and accepted into the organization. All recited the Obligation.

Vice Regent Sharon Gramelspacher then read from the Spiritual Reflection Guide about going through life from the valleys to the mountaintops. Regent Beckman asked for special intentions.  Prayers were offered for the intentions.

Secretary Pam Schneider called the Roll of Officers. Present at the meeting were officers Marge Beckman-Regent, Sharon Gramelspacher-Vice Regent, Kathy Schneider-Past Regent, Rose Rasche-Treasurer, Betty Mehringer-Financial secretary, Chris Schuetter-Assistant Financial secretary,  Pam Howard, Lynne Bohnert and Tracy Merkel-Auditors,  Pam Schneider-Secretary, Kathy Bachman Scribe, Bev Himsel-Chancellor and Martha Mathews- Guide.  Diane Klein-Guide was excused. Secretary Schneider read the minutes from the previous meeting. There were no corrections.

Treasurer Rose Rasche read the report of the Treasurer. Her report was filed for audit.

Communications were read. Regent Beckman reported that no communication has been received yet from International. Secretary Schneider read a request from Jasper High School’s Post Prom committee asking the Circle for a donation. A motion was made and seconded to send a donation.

Scribe Kathy Bachman had no report to announce.

Vice Regent Sharon Gramelspacher thanked the February committee of Nancy Marks and Patty Bailey. Due to Nancy’s illness, Patty’s younger family members participated along with her, and the nursing home members enjoyed visiting with them. Visiting in March will be Chris Schuetter, Betty Mehringer and Jane Werner.  

Scribe Kathy Bachman reported that she sent our monthly meeting announcements to the area churches and several media outlets. She hoped the announcements were shared on the church bulletins, on the radio and in print.

The Social Activities were discussed. Regent Beckman thanked those members who helped with the Way of the Cross, the Meatless Soups and preparing tuna fish sandwiches on February 20 at St. Joseph’s. Vice Regent Gramelspacher said that membership information was available for those wishing to learn more about the D of I that night. More ways to recruit new members were discussed.

The Mother’s Day dinner is scheduled for May 11 at the St. Joseph Parish Center. Cost of the catered meal will be $12. Reservations will be taken till April 29. Call Kathy Schneider at 812-309-9108 or Betty Mehringer at 812-482-3661 to register. 

Prayers were said for an increase in membership and for the youth. 

The next Moose Bingo that the D of I will help with will be on March 17.

Regent Beckman reminded members that several Masses have been scheduled for D of I members. A Mass for Shut-ins will be on April 1 at 8:00 a.m., the Memorial Mass will be on April 23 at 6:30 p.m., and the Mass for Living and Deceased D of I members will be on May 7 at 8:00 a.m.  All Masses will be at St. Joseph Church. 

Under Unfinished Business, the Spring State Convention will be April 24 at Donaldson, IN. Planning to attend are Vice Regent Sharon Gramelspacher and Past Regent Kathy Schneider. The International convention will be August 8-12, 2026 in Ontario, Canada. Regent Beckman and Vice Regent Gramelspacher plan to attend. Each Circle is required to attend.

Financial Secretary Betty Mehringer read the receipts of the meeting. She thanked those members who had turned in their 2026 dues.

Following the Closing Prayer and the singing of the Closing Ode Regent Beckman declared the business meeting closed. The next meeting will be April 13 at 6:30 p.m., in Room 301, at the St. Joseph Parish Center.

March birthdays were announced, and members Bev Himsel and Virgie Emmons were recognized. Bev Himsel won the monthly birthday prize.

The monthly attendance prize went to Tracy Merkel.
