Darlene V. Hopf, 84, Ireland

Darlene V. Hopf, 84, of Ireland, Ind., passed away surrounded by family at 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Darlene was born in Jasper, Indiana, on April 25, 1942, to Raymond and Lucille (Morgenroth) Schuetter. 

She married William J. Hopf on September 17, 1960, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. 

He preceded her in death on December 25, 2022.

She was a 1960 graduate of Ireland High School.

She was a cook at the Jasper House and later a fabric cutter at Touch of Class. Most recently, she had been a machine operator for Kimball Electronics, where she worked for over 15 years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and the St. Ann’s Society. She was a devout Catholic and was a religious education teacher and Eucharistic Minister for the parish.

Darlene enjoyed cooking, sewing, being in nature, gardening, canning, and spending time with family and friends.  She loved the holidays and entertaining for family; she would get everyone together and prepare a wonderful meal.

She is survived by two sons, Duane Hopf of Jasper and Darren Hopf of Otwell; two daughters, Cindy (Jimmy Dean) Simpson of Crossville, Tenn. and Christine (Jon) Martin of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Craig (Jessica) and Robert (Kayla) Abbott, Alicia (Cody) Elmore, Jon (Anne), Zach, and Mariah Martin, and Janis (Marcus) Monroe; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Stemle of Celestine; and two brothers, Ray (Evelyn) Schuetter of Holland and David (Annette) Schuetter of Schnellville; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, besides her husband, is one brother, Don Schuetter.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene V. Hopf will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  St. Mary Parish will pray a rosary at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
