Dale woman killed, another injured in head-on collision

Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred in Spencer County on Monday evening.
According to authorities, Indiana State Police and Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on west of Saint Meinrad on State Road 162 north of State Road 62 at about 8:20 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicated Amber Gogel, 37, of Dale, was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on State Road 162 when her vehicle may have traveled left of center into the path of a southbound 2014 Dodge Durango driven by Amanda Kern, 40, of Dale. The two vehicles struck head-on in the southbound lane.
Gogel was pronounced dead on the scene from her injuries. Kern was transported to Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper by ambulance for serious injuries and is now listed in stable condition.
Authorities have made death notifications to the family, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning. This crash is still under investigation.
Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Claus Police Department, Spencer County Coroner, Spencer County Emergency Medical Services, and Jaws Towing of Santa Claus assisted at the scene.
