Daily rundown for Tuesday, October 1

Hello all,

Here are a couple of stories from Dubois County for today.

Among the highlights is the passage of the North Ridge Estates residential TIF resolution in Jasper that places the final step for approval on the Jasper Common Council’s docket for later this month. Issues discussed during the passage centered on how the district would capture property taxes that would typically go to other taxing units in the county, including the Greater Jasper School Corporation.

The SHS Class of 1974 toured the school and the new updates while recognizing they were some of the first girls to participate in girls’ sports at the school after Title IX was passed on June 23, 1972. Title IX prohibits federally funded educational institutions from discriminating against students or employees based on sex. The next year, two brand new sports teams were created for girls, volleyball and track, and a year later, girls swimming was added.

We also published a write-up and included a few images of last week’s Jasper Chamber Luncheon, which celebrated Jim Siebert as the recipient of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce President’s Community Excellence Award. In typical Jim fashion, he told me he knew I loved my job because I was always smiling when I was doing it. Of course, when I get to interview and write about people like you, Jim, I’m smiling.

You can also check out all the great entertainment coming up this month, including ACT’s “Twisted Tales of Poe,” the Lincoln Amphitheatre’s final show of the season, RESPECT, and Preacher Larson, a great comedian at Jasper Community Arts. Also this week, Downtown Chowdown is Thursday and then on Saturday, Jasper will have its annual Kids Day going on around the Square.

Until tomorrow,

Matthew Crane
