Cyrilla A. Hammers, 85, Ferdinand

Cyrilla A. Hammers, 85, Ferdinand, formerly of Bristow, passed away Thursday Sept. 1, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Uniontown on March 20, 1931, to Martin C. and Julitta E. (Merkley) Bauer. She married Leonard Hammers Jr. on Oct. 24, 1951, in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1987.

Mrs. Hammers retired from G.E. in Tell City. She also worked part time at Saint Meinrad Archabbey and the Sisters of St. Benedict at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. She enjoyed crocheting, yard sales, gardening, visiting her family farm, family and friends. She was a member of St. Ferdinand and St. Martin of Tours Catholic parishes and the Ferdinand Senior Citizens.

Surviving are four sons, James Hammers, Keith Hammers and Mark (Doris) Hammers, all of Bristow, and Chris (Barbra) Hammers of English; a sister, Mercedes (John) Phruher of Bristow; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norbert and Denis Bauer.

The funeral was Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church or the Sisters of St. Benedict at Monastery Immaculate Conception.
