POSTPONED! Creek Sweep rescheduled for next week

UPDATE: Due to the forecasted rain and cool temperatures for Saturday, the Creek Sweep scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Tuesday, October 29.  Check-in is between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the Solid Waste District and volunteers will pick up trash and debris until 6:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL: County residents are asked to volunteer just three hours at the fourth annual Dubois County Creek Sweep. 

Bring your families and neighbors and join the Soil and Water Conservation District, the Solid Waste Management District, and the City of Jasper Stormwater Department on Saturday, October 26, 2019, to help clean up the county’s roadside ditches and creeks.  

The Creek Sweep is a unique opportunity to bring families, students, service organizations and clubs together to battle against litter. Roadside trash and illegal dumping is moved by wind and rain runoff into our creeks and streams; our drinking water sources. In some areas, trash is being dumped directly into the stream channel. Debris and pollution poison our creeks, rivers and lakes. Picking up the trash improves our water quality and protects our drinking water sources.

All groups and individuals are welcome. Young children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers should meet at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the Dubois County Solid Waste District office at 1103 S 350 W, Jasper, for registration and refreshments.  Maps and supplies will be provided and then, volunteers will be directed to pre-selected sites.

Volunteers should wear boots or sturdy shoes, if possible. Gloves and trash bags will be provided along with reflective vests, buckets and trash grabbers.

Door prizes will be awarded after the volunteers return to the SWMD office to unload.
