Crash closes U.S. 231 south of Huntingburg
A crash caused by the road conditions on U.S. 231 earlier today ended up closing the highway for about an hour Wednesday.
Police responded to the crash about a half mile south of County Road 1000, south of Huntingburg at about 10:46 a.m.
According to police, Katrina Peraza Siberian, 18, of Dale was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2007 Honda Civic when the vehicle hydroplaned on the wet roadway. Peraza Siberian lost control of the vehicle which went left of center striking a guardrail before going in the path of a 2010 Honda Odyssey driven by Thomas Yeltin, 42, of Indianapolis.
The two vehicles collided and came to rest in the roadway.
Kari Davis, 40, of Indianapolis, was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for a complaint of neck pain. Police said the injuries were thought to be minor.
The drivers and other passengers — three in Peraza Siberian’s vehicle and two in Yelton’s van — refused treatment at the scene, police said.
Peraza Siberian was cited for operating without financial responsibility.
Indiana State Police, St Henry Fire Department first responders, Sternberg’s Wrecker Service, and KARS wrecker service responded to the crash.

“…caused by the road conditions…” ??? Hardly, if a contributing factor. Try “caused by” driving unsafe or an unsafe vehicle with “…nearly bald tires…” as reported by the DC Sheriff on the facebook photo.
It is a contributing factor. If the road conditions weren’t wet, the bald tires wouldn’t have hydroplaned. Nearly all accidents have multiple contributing factors. As far as unsafe driving, there isn’t enough information in this article to suggest that fact. Inexperience may have been a factor.
