Crash closes State Road 56, sends three to hospital
A crash on Friday, May 17, 2024, closed State Road 56 for four hours as Dubois County deputies and Indiana State Police investigated and cleared the scene.
According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, they were called to State Road 56 just east of County Road 1180 East, near the Dubois/Orange County line, for a crash with injuries.
During the investigation, it was determined that a male juvenile of Santa Claus was eastbound on State Road 56 in a 2008 Dodge Avenger when, for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and struck a 1997 Dodge Ram traveling westbound driven by 50-year-old Amy R Thompson of Shoals.
Both drivers and a male juvenile passenger in the 2008 Dodge Avenger were transported to the hospital from the scene.
Both vehicles were a total loss.
State Road 56 was shut down for approximately four hours while the accident reconstruction was completed.
Indiana State Police, Dubois Fire Department, Memorial Hospital EMS, Statflight Helicopter, Dubois County Dispatch, Magners Towing, and Dr Auto Towing assisted deputies on the scene.
