County Councilman Ryan Craig announces bid for Jasper mayor

Following the resignation announcement of Mayor Dean Vonderheide, Ryan Craig officially announced his intention to seek the office of Mayor of Jasper through the upcoming caucus process.

Craig, a county council member and local business owner, expressed appreciation for Mayor Vonderheide’s years of service to the city.

“Mayor Vonderheide has dedicated many years to serving Jasper, and I thank him for his commitment to our community,” Craig said. “My intention is to help ensure a smooth transition and continue moving Jasper forward.”

Craig said his experience in local government has provided him with a strong understanding of government operations and the importance of collaboration.

“I believe Jasper is strongest when city and county leaders work together,” Craig said. “If selected through the caucus process, I will focus on cooperation, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and keeping city government accessible to residents.”

“I am seeking this opportunity because I have a strong passion for Jasper and care deeply about its future,” Craig added. “I look forward to listening to residents and earning their confidence.”

The Dubois County GOP has not announced a date for convening the precinct committee members for a caucus to choose a candidate to finish Mayor Vonderheide’s final year of office.
