Cops Cycling for Survivors to pass through Huntingburg July 20/21
The 20th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors ride will make its way through Huntingburt on July 20.
The map for the ride will lead riders from Terre Haute to Princeton for day eight of the ride and from Princeton to Huntingburg day nine of the ride, July 20.
Cops Cycling for Survivors Foundation, Inc. annual bike ride consists of active and retired police officers, law enforcement survivors, law enforcement family members and friends of law enforcement riding their bicycles around the perimeter of Indiana to raise funds and awareness of the sacrifices made by Hoosier law enforcement families across Indiana. Funds raised from this event are used to perpetuate the memories of officers killed in the line of duty and to aid surviving family members and co-workers of those officers. Previously raised funds have been directly donated to foundations, scholarships and camps that have been started in memory of fallen officers or by Indiana survivors.
This year’s ride pays special tribute to those officers who died in 2020: Officer Kenneth Lester of the Richmond Police Department, Feb. 10, 2020; Officer Breann Leath of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, April 9, 2020; and Sergeant Te’Juan Johnson of the Charlestown Police Department, Dec. 2, 2020.
Since last year’s ride was modified, Indiana’s 2019 line of duty will also be given honors: Chief David Hewitt of the Rising Sun Police Department, Feb. 13, 2019, and Trooper Peter “Bo” Stephan of the Indiana State Police, Oct. 11, 2019.
A departure ceremony was held at 8 a.m. EDT at the Police and Fire Fighters Memorial on the capitol grounds in downtown Indianapolis.
The ride is scheduled to conclude the afternoon of Saturday, July 24 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Heroes of Public Safety Section. The closing ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.

Cops Cycling for Survivors Foundation, Incorporated was granted 501(c) 3 status as a not-for-profit in late 2011, and the inaugural 13-day tour around Indiana under the new name took place in July of 2012. However, the spirit of this ride began many years before. In 2002 a group of police officers decided to support survivors by riding their bicycles from Indianapolis, Indiana to Washington, D.C. to honor officers who had been killed in the line of duty and to support their survivors. The ride has gone through many changes over the years, but one thing has remained constant…the cyclists’ dedication to honoring fallen law enforcement heroes and supporting their survivors left behind.
