Community Foundation announces scholarship awards

The Dubois County Community Foundation is pleased to announce over $25,000 in scholarship aid to graduating area students. The recipients for the 2012-2013 academic year administered by the Community Foundation include students of Southridge, Forest Park, Heritage Hills, and Jasper High Schools. Effective June 1, 2012, the Huntingburg Foundation, Inc. merged with the Dubois County Community Foundation, Inc. These awards are made on behalf of endowment and donor funds held by the merged entity.

COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Sarah Gobert Scholarship Fund was established by the Dubois County Leukemia Association in memory of Sarah Gobert, a young child whose thirteen months battle with leukemia ended in October of 1998, benefits students graduating from any of the four school districts of Dubois County who wish to pursue post-secondary education in the medical or healthcare professions.   Maggie O’Connor and Megan Sternberg of Jasper High School are each recipients of the one-time $1,250 scholarship award.  Maggie, daughter of Stephen and Michelle O’Connor, is attending Vanderbilt University to study Biomedical Engineering/Pre-Med.  Megan, daughter of David and Kathleen Sternberg, plans to attend Indiana University to study Biology/Pre-Optometry.

Denise Davis-Thompson Scholarship Fund was established by the generosity of Mr. Thompson in honor of his wife, Denise Davis-Thompson, in recognition of her dedicated service to the hearing impaired of Dubois, Perry, and Spencer counties offers a one-time award of $250 to a graduate of any named county in pursuit of post-secondary studies to assist children and adults with hearing impairments.  This year’s recipient is Adalyn Dilger of Forest Park Jr.-Sr. High School.  Adalyn, daughter of Chris and Kristy Dilger, will attend Purdue University to study Speech and Language Pathology.

Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. Scholarship Fund was established in support of a child or grandchild of a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. or a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. who intends to pursue further education after graduation from high school.  Taylor Gogel of Heritage Hills High School is the recipient of a one-time $1,000 scholarship award.  Taylor, son of Mark and Bonnie Gogel, will attend the University of Southern Indiana to study Political Science.  Kendra Gehlhausen, Clayton Hopf, Kyle Smith, and Carolyn Hampton of Southridge High School are all one-time recipients of a $250 scholarship award.  Kendra, daughter of Robert and Lisa Gehlhausen, will attend Oakland City University to study Special Education.  Clayton, son of Brad Hopf and Dodie Hopf, will attend IUPUI to study Computer Science.  Kyle, son of John and Kathryn Smith, will attend Indiana State University to study Criminology/Criminal Justice.  Carolyn, daughter of David Hampton and Catherine Hampton, will attend Indiana State University to study Athletic Training.

ATHLETIC-RELATED AWARDS AT SOUTHRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

Trent-Singer Scholarship Fund was established by the families in memory of Gordon Singer, Jr. and Todd Trent to benefit students graduating from Southridge High School and having participated in high school athletics.  Luke Mundy is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award.  Luke, son of John and Lori Mundy, will be attending the University of Southern Indiana.

Jason Feldmeyer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established for the 2000 graduate of Southridge High School and golf team standout, Jason Feldmeyer, to offer a scholarship award for current Southridge High School senior golf members pursuing a post-secondary education.  Bryce Kilian is the recipient of the one-time $2,500 scholarship award.  Bryce, son of Jill Kilian, plans to attend Wabash College to study Civil Engineering.

Zachary King Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a Southridge High School student who participated in athletic programs and at age sixteen lost his life due to an automobile accident. The award is made available to a Southridge High School graduate who participated in high school athletics.  Adam Messmer, son of Doug and Karen Messmer, is the recipient of a one-time $250 scholarship award.  Adam will attend Purdue University to study Agricultural Economics.

RENEWAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Owen Roettger Scholarship Endowment was established by the late Mr. Roettger to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in music.  Brooke Lubbehusen and Danielle Wehr are the recipients of the four-year scholarship award that provides $1,000 per year. Brooke, daughter of Tamara and Kevin Lubbehusen, attends Indiana State University.  Danielle, daughter of Jacqueline and Timothy Wehr, attends Indiana University.

Marian Klausmeier Roettger Scholarship Endowment was established by Mr. Roettger in memory of his wife to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in business or accounting.  Lance Messmer and Morgan Kippenbrock are the recipients of the four-year scholarship that provides $1,000 per year. Lance, son of Karen and Doug Messmer, attends the Vincennes University Jasper Campus.  Morgan, daughter of Beth and Roger Kippenbrock, attends the University of Southern Indiana.  Mackenzi Seib is the recipient of the four-year scholarship that provides $2,000 per year.  Mackenzi, daughter of Kevin and Dayna Seib, attends the University of Southern Indiana.

Spirit of Southridge Scholarship Endowment was established by sportswriter J.A. (Al) Dotterweich to honor outstanding senior athletes at Southridge High School and support their future college endeavors.   Recipients of the one-time $200 scholarship awards were Megan Dippel, Adam Messmer, Cassie Wertman, and Brad Schwinghamer.  Megan, daughter of Thomas and Marilyn Dippel, will attend the University of Southern Indiana to study Occupational Therapy.  Adam, son of Doug and Karen Messmer, will attend Purdue University and study Agricultural Economics.  Cassie, daughter of Kevin and Diane Wertman, will attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to study Athletic Training.

FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AT SOUTHRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

Uebelhor Family Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the family in memory of the late Walter and Mary Louise Uebelhor and Mary Ann Uebelhor in support of a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary education degree in elementary education.  Kendra Gehlhausen is the recipient of the one-time $1,500 scholarship award.  Kendra, daughter of Robert and Lisa Gehlhausen, will attend Oakland City University to study Special Education.

Steinkamp Family Scholarship Fund was established by the Steinkamp family in memory of Alice M. Steinkamp Ring to support a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary degree at the University of Evansville.  Phillip Smith, son of John and Kim Wagner, is the recipient of a one-time $1,200 scholarship award.  He plans to attend University of Evansville to study Physical Therapy.
