Community Corrections awarded for recent assessment score

The Dubois County Community Corrections Center was awarded $20,932 for receiving the highest rating possible for a corrections facility from the Indiana Department of Corrections.
Community corrections received the rating due to an assessment based on criteria such as the program’s success in diverting felons from the Department of Corrections and an annual site assessment of the facility.
The state statute establishing corrections was created for the purpose of diverting non-violent D felons from the department of corrections. The center operates evidence-based treatment programs which also help to prevent recidivism.
Dubois County Community Corrections was one of only 19 corrections agencies in the state to receive a level one rating.
“I am very proud of the team effort we have had at the corrections center to make it what it is today,” director J.P. Weisheit. “We are proud of the fact that we can keep people out of the state prison system and more importantly out of the county security center.”
Community corrections operates the work release program, monitors day reporting and administers electronic monitoring programs.
“We allow them to remain a productive member of our community instead of being a financial burden on the county tax payer by placing them in the Security Center,” Weisheit said. “Our participants hold jobs which allows them to help with family expenses. Because they have jobs, they pay county taxes instead of using county taxes by being housed in the security center.”
