Commissioners extend local emergency travel declaration

After originally declaring the local emergency and limiting travel in the county at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the commissioners have extended the Local Emergency Declaration and Travel Advisory Warning until 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.

All citizens are asked to comply with necessary emergency measures, and to cooperate with public officials and disaster service personnel in executing emergency operation plans, and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

This snow emergency declaration means that all of Dubois County is under a Travel Warning. This is the highest level of local travel advisory, indicating that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only.

During a warning local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:

A) Refrain from all travel
B) Comply with necessary emergency measures
C) Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
D) Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

The Emergency Travel Declaration limits travel but does not mandate business closures; travel should be extremely limited to essential needs, including essential work.
