Dubois County Commissioner Elmer Brames was elected President of the Indiana Association of County Commissioners (IACC) South West District during their recent annual conference.
Spencer County Commissioner Al Logsdon stated that “Elmer will be a great spokesperson for their district and is very dedicated to improving local government.”
As District President, Brames will represent the elected county commissioners in the South West district of the state, which includes the following counties: Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Greene, Knox, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Sullivan, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. The IACC is represented by six districts in the state. Brames will serve on the IACC’s board of directors, which determines policies and legislative goals for the Association.
Lawrence County Commissioner Eugene McCracken was elected District Vice President during the meeting as well. The district meeting also included discussion on current issues pertaining to county government in the South West District.
The elections were held during the IACC’s 2018 Annual Conference, the largest gathering of County Commissioners in the state. The three-day conference included several different workshops and breakout sessions that were designed specifically for county commissioners and support staff.
Commissioner Brames, along with Dubois County Commissioners Chad Blessinger and Nick Hostetter, attended several training workshops concerning such county-related topics on county-related topics relating to the conference theme “Shaping Tomorrow Together” where they discussed “shaping tomorrow together” in all areas of local government and focused on Jail Overcrowding, Workforce Development, Emergency Preparedness, Open Door Laws, Shaping County Highway Projects, and more.
Hamilton County’s Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt, Sheriff Mark Bowen, EMA Director Shane Booker, and Executive Director of Communications Mike Snowden were the Keynote panelist at this year’s conference. Shaping a Safe and Secure Community is a top priority for County Commissioners. Attendees learned in this session how emergency planning, exercising, and preparedness shaped an effective coordinated response to the tragic Noblesville West Middle School shooting incident.
