Clyde D. Nicholson, 90, Hillham
Clyde D. Nicholson, 90, of Hillham, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 6:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at home.
Clyde was born in Hillham, Indiana, on December 14, 1935, to Jasper and Sophia (Walls) Nicholson.
He married his sweetheart, Sue Kerns on March 20, 1954.
He was a 1953 graduate of French Lick High School.
Clyde worked for 29 years with the Pipeline, starting as a mechanic at the Celestine, Indiana, station. He retired in 1994 as the Superintendent of the Pipeline and Compressor Station in Shelbyville, Indiana.
He was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper, Indiana. He joined the Lions Club while living in Portland, Indiana. He served in leadership positions and was awarded “Lion of the Year” while in Shelbyville for his volunteer work. Clyde and Sue traveled to many Lion Conventions and enjoyed making new friends along the way.
In 1981, Clyde joined the Masons and eventually served as Worshipful Master. He also belonged to the Shriners Club at that time.
After moving to Jasper, he joined the Moose Lodge where he remained an active member.
In 2011, Clyde became an Honorable Kentucky Colonel.
Anyone who knew Clyde knew that he was an avid golfer. He loved being out on the course and made many friends over the years through leagues and tournament play. Clyde was a Ford man. He loved anything Ford made and raced dirt tracks with his brother, Dean. He watched as many NASCAR races as possible and, of course, rooted for the Fords.
Clyde was a big IU fan and enjoyed watching their games.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sue Nicholson of Jasper; four children, Terry (Marilyn) Nicholson of Jasper, Sherry (Andy) Cupp of Little River, S.C., Sheila Eades of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Steven (ReRe) Nicholson of Bardstown, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, Eric (Beth) Nicholson, Greg (Tiffany) Nicholson, Adrienne (Brett) Cave, Gavin (Dana) Cupp, Chad (Ashley) Cupp, Shelby (Aaron) Schubert, Stephen Eades, Michael Eades, Ryan (Rebekah) Nicholson, Ariel (Tim) Reed, and Chloe Nicholson; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean (Janet) Nicholson of Hillman; one brother-in-law, Randall Roach of West Baden; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his siblings, Floyd “Jake” Nicholson, Betty Quinn, Donald Nicholson, Judy Waggoner, and Linda Roach; and one son-in-law, Robert Eades.
A funeral service for Clyde D. Nicholson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Nicholson Valley Christian Church, with burial to follow in the Crystal Community Cemetery. Pastor Dan Sinkhorn will officiate.
A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time at the church on Friday. The Line Lodge #743 – Jasper Masons will hold a memorial service at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
