Clayton Henry “Pete” Peters, 88
Clayton Henry “Pete” Peters, age 88, of Holland, Indiana, passed away at 2:11 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born August 5, 1923 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Arthur and Ethel (Ruttkar) Peters. He was united in marriage to Doris Schroeder on August 22, 1948. Clayton worked at the Holland Dairy for 44 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where he served several terms on the church council, sang in the choir, served as church janitor several times, and was always willing to help out when able. He especially enjoyed playing on the Church’s softball team, until he wasn’t able to recuperate from one game to the next!
During the 1960’s-70’s he served for 10 years as Chief of the Holland Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Germany for a year. He loved traveling, gardening, woodworking, and sports. He was able to watch the cardinals win the World Series from his hospital bed.
Clayton was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Donald Peters; one sister, Luella (Peters) Hemmer; and one grandson, Christopher Bische.

By (5) grandchildren, (8) great grandchildren, and (2 step) great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Clayton “Pete” Peters will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holland with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Holland. Pastor Debbie Roe will officiate.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday; and also at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
