Charter school possibility for Otwell

The Friends of Otwell are seeking enrollment for a newly forming a charter school, Otwell Miller Academy.

After the Pike County School Corporation announced Otwell Elementary would be closing after the 2015-2016 school year, the Friends of Otwell formed and conducted a survey for input. They learned that the community overwhelmingly supported maintaining a school in Otwell.

Currently, the group is waiting to hear if Ball State University will authorize the charter school and is expecting to know by early April. The charter school will be located on the Otwell Community Center property and could open this fall.

“We plan to keep class sizes small for our students to ensure success and will limit the amount of students we enroll in each class,” reads a statement on the survey. “We are conducting this preliminary enrollment so you can get your name on the waiting list to reserve a spot.”
