Charles R. Ruxer, 93, Saint Meinrad

Charles R. Ruxer, 93, of Saint Meinrad, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born April 23, 1924, in Saint Meinrad to Frank A. and Aurelia (Becher) Ruxer. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Ringeman on November 11, 1944, in Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church.
Charles retired as owner-operator of Ruxer Furniture & Appliance in St. Meinrad after 61 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He was also a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus #5599, St. Meinrad Senior Citizens, and St. Meinrad SMART Club. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball and cards. He enjoyed V.F.W. dances.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice Ruxer; one daughter, Karen (JD) Springston of Santa Claus; two sons, Terry (Sandy) Ruxer of Cadiz, Kentucky, and Mark (Kathy) Ruxer of Saint Meinrad; nine grandchildren, Todd Ruxer, Brett Ruxer, Heather Sisley, Clint Ruxer, Ashley Springston, Janelle Brentlinger, Courtney Ruxer, Brooke Gray and Shanna Markinson; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Angela Volz of Evansville; and one brother, Lee Edgar Ruxer of Evansville.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Sergesketter and Genevieve Volz.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CST Friday, December 15 in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. CST Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and after 9 a.m. CST Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Meinrad Parish or a favorite charity.
