Charles L. “Charlie” Eckert, 77, Jasper
Charles L. “Charlie” Eckert, 77, of Jasper, passed away at home surrounded by family at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Charlie was born in Jasper on May 2, 1949, to Mathew “Butts” and Helen (Wehr) Eckert.
He married Gail Bueltel on August 28, 1971, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.
He was a 1967 graduate of Jasper High School. In 1972, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.
He retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions as Facility Director, where he had worked for 28 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, Jasper Moose Club #1175, Jasper Rifle and Gun Club, Dubois County Museum, Indiana Sheriff’s Association, Purdue Club of Dubois County, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, Ireland K of C, and the VFW Post #673 Auxiliary.
Charlie enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, going to Thursday lunch with the Jasper Engines Retirees and monthly dinner outings with Jasper Engine employees.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail Eckert of Jasper; three children, Craig (Colleen) Eckert of Boonville, Dave Eckert of Jasper, and Audra (Daryl) Dierkes of Westfield; five grandchildren, Sydney and Alexia Eckert and Emerson, Norah, and Bennett Dierkes; four sisters, Phyllis (Kenneth) Oeding of Ferdinand, Carol (Mike) Toy of Dale, Gloria (Charles) Bueltel of Jasper, and Linda (Frank) Goeppner of Jasper; one brother-in- law, Gene Mehne of Portersville; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one sister, Jan Eckert Mehne, and one brother, Edward J. Eckert.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles L. “Charlie” Eckert will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
