Charles “Chuck” Eugene Bockstahler, 84
On the early morning of October 1, 2015 Charles Bockstahler passed away after a long bout with Alzheimer’s. Chuck was being visited by friends and comforted by his loving wife Dorothy, and youngest son David at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home located in Anderson, South Carolina.
Chuck was 84 years old on the morning that he passed.
After leaving the Air Force, Chuck joined The Piper Aircraft Corporation in Lock Haven Pennsylvania. Chuck met his wife Dorothy at Piper. They were married and had three children together, Charles Eric, Julie Ann, and David Edwin Bockstahler.
Chuck was involved with Piper for the next 42 years, and general aviation for over 50 years. During that time, he and his family spent several years in Santa Rosa California, Lakeland Florida, Vero Beach Florida, Asheville, North Carolina, Johnson City Tennessee, Port Angeles, Washington, and Finally Greenville, South Carolina where he spent the last 15 years with his youngest son David’s family.
Family was most important to Chuck. His children would say that dad considered us “The family unit.” His wife Dorothy, their family, and his entire family were the things he loved and cared most about; flying and and general aviation was a close second. However, flying with his family was when he was most happy. Chuck was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, or just a good hike. He enjoyed sports and was a leader of his high school basketball and football team, and played on the basketball team his freshman year at Indiana University.
To the people who knew him well, or the people who knew him or were only in his life for a short time, he was commonly known as “a good guy.” He was known for his honesty, integrity, character, and desire to help others, especially those closest to him. He could always be counted on. He will be dearly missed by those who had the good fortune to know him.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Blanche Wibbeler Bockstahler and a sister Carol Jane.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Charles Eric Bockstahler, daughter Julie Ann Bockstahler, son David Edwin Bockstahler; grandchildren Kirsten Bockstahler, Michael Bockstahler, Madeline T. Bockstahler, Margaret “Maisie” A. Bockstahler, Mackenzie G. Bockstahler, Piper Bockstahler, Chloe Bockstahler.
Also surviving are two siblings, Bill Bockstahler and Willa Fay Stang.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m till 1:30 p.m. at the Dale United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will follow at 1:30 p.m.. Burial to follow in the Dale Cemetery.

A special thanks to the staff members who were closest to Dad when at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Home. Travis, Lynn, and Lisa from the Patriot Hospice organization provided genuine and heartfelt comfort and attention to Chuck, Dorothy and his son David during his final days.
