Charles A. Schnellenberger, age 95, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, January 12, 2014, at the Timbers of Jasper.

Charles was born on June 2, 1918 in Adeyville, Indiana to Albert and Sadie (Hobbs) Schnellenberger. He married Muriel Wood on November 6, 1944 in Manchester, England. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2008.

Charles was a farmer in the St. Henry area and worked for Jasper Engines for 38 years, from which he retired.

He was an Army Air Corps Veteran who proudly served in the European Theater during World War II.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, Huntingburg VFW Post 2366, Huntingburg YMI, the Huntingburg Conservation Club, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Andrea Nolan and her husband Ronald, of Greenfield, Ind., and Stephanie Tropp, of Huntingburg; three brothers, Raymond Schnellenberger, of Tolono, Ill., Allen Schnellenberger of Williamsville, Ill., and Nathan Schnellenberger, of Jasper; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death beside his wife is one daughter Jackie Tanner and four sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral services for Charles A. Schnellenberger will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (January 15, 2014) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper IN, with burial to follow at St. Meinrad Cemetery in St. Meinrad, IN. The Huntingburg VFW Post #2366 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (January 14, 2014) at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.
