Charges possible without voluntary return of money (updated)
Update:
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department has met with the man featured in an image shared with news media earlier today and determined he is not involved in the search of a large sum of money lost at Walmart.
Detective Anderson received some tips and the individual came to the sheriffs department. After speaking with the subject, it was determined that he was not involved in the missing money.
The case remains open but there are no further leads at this time.
The Dubois County Sheriffs Department is still investigating a case of missing money from Wal-mart, 4040 North Newton, Jasper.
According to authorities, the female owner of the money accidentally left it in a cart in the parking lot.
After further review of the video footage from the store, officers have a person who is thought to come into possession of the money. According to police, the man was recorded by surveillance cameras in the parking lot taking the envelope from a cart. He then entered the vehicle pictured below and left.

The previous request generated a lot of phone calls about a female subject from the Huntingburg area. She is not involved. Coincidentally, this woman found a sum of money in the Walmart parking lot the day before this incident occurred.
As was previously released, the goal is to get the money returned to the rightful owner.
“Hopefully the individual doesn’t have bad intentions,” Wilson said. “Maybe they just don’t know how to find the rightful owner.”
Wilson recommends that anyone who finds a large sum of money should take it to the police to find the rightful owner.
At this point, if the individual does return the money there will not be any charges. However, officers are exploring charges against the individual if he does not come forward voluntarily with the money.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to contact Detective John Anderson at 812-639-9055 or 812-482-3522. All calls can be kept confidential.
