Caucus to determine new Huntingburg mayor

With the announcement that Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner is resigning to lead the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, his replacement will be chosen by a caucus of the Huntingburg Precinct Committeemen.

Republican chair Mark Messmer announced the caucus will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, in the Huntingburg City Hall. There are four precinct committeemen eligible to vote in the caucus.

Candidates to fill the vacancy are required to file a declaration of candidacy with Messmer with the CEB-5 form at least 72 hours before the caucus. Nominations from the floor are NOT permitted by state law.

Forms can be mailed or delivered to Messmer at 795 E. Scherle Lane, Jasper. The forms are available at the Dubois County Clerk’s office in the Dubois County Courthouse or at Messmer’s office, 402 Third Ave., Jasper.

“Precinct Committeemen have numerous roles to play with the Republican Party. None is more important than representing your constituents in the selection to fill this vacancy in a public office,” Messmer said.
