Catherine C. “Kate” Verkamp, age 77, of Jasper, passed away at 9:09 a.m., Friday (December 28, 2012) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
Kate was born in Jasper, Indiana on January 2, 1935 to Ferdinand and Coletta (Daeschle) Hoffman. She married Gilbert Verkamp on May 11, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.
She was a member of the Jasper High School Class of 1953 and attended Indiana University.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the St. Ann’s Society, the Gamma Kappa Sorority, the Sorin Society of the University of Notre Dame, and the Women of the Rule supporting the Sisters of St. Benedict.
She was an avid Notre Dame fan, and loved to travel and volunteer in the community.

Preceding Catherine in death is one sister, Rose Ann Kuper, and one brother, Thomas Hoffman.
Funeral services for Catherine C. “Kate” Verkamp will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (December 31, 2012) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday (December 30, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. The Gamma Kappa Sorority will conduct a service at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to the Sisters of St. Benedict, Ferdinand, Indiana.
