Carolyn L. Wellemeyer, 99, of Huntingburg

Carolyn L. Wellemeyer, 99, of Huntingburg, passed away at 9:32 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at The Waters of Huntingburg.
She was born March 12, 1917, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Edwin and Corilla (Reutepohler) Lukemeyer. She married Leon Wellemeyer during World War II, in 1942, at the Clinton Avenue Community Church in Brooklyn, New York. They were married for 71 years.
Carolyn was a graduate of Evansville College and former member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a school teacher for 35 years in Huntingburg and Evansville, and retired in 1980. After retiring from teaching, Carolyn served as Director of the Huntingburg Foundation for two years, served on the auxiliary board and as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 25 years, and volunteered making deliveries with Meals on Wheels.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association at the national, state and local levels; a charter member of the Huntingburg Study Club; past member of Sinawik; V.F.W. Auxiliary; Huntingburg United Methodist Church, where she worked with the youth; former member of the Huntingburg Music Club; and former Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Counselor for the Girl Scouts Summer Camp in Evansville.
Carolyn was a lady. A lady who loved a warm gentle breeze; a good book; being surrounded by family and friends, especially Leon; and the love of our Heavenly Father. She was blessed with many days. A beautiful life has been stilled. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, who passed away August 29, 2014
Carolyn is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia (Ralph) Scales of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Mike (Lynda) Wellemeyer of Prospect, Kentucky and John (Elaine) Wellemeyer of Evansville, Ind.; one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (John) Bonar of Tucson, Arizona; onenephew, Scott Bonar of Tucson, Arizona; by seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Carolyn L. Wellemeyer will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 5, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial of her cremains to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Pastor Lee Campbell will officiate at the service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from noon to 2:00 p.m. on April 5, 2016, the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Huntingburg United Methodist Church or the Huntingburg Community Impact Fund c/o the Dubois County Community Foundation.
