Caroline Olivia Wagner, 94, of Huntingburg, passed away at 10:23 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born July 16, 1923, in Ireland, Ind., to Joseph and Anna (Stenftenagel) Schmitt. She married Albert W. Wagner on February 19, 1944, in Ireland.

Caroline was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, St. Mary’s Quilters, and Dubois County Right to Life. She was a lifelong quilter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Wagner, who died June 8, 1987; two children, Mary Stuart and Christopher Wagner; seven siblings, Bertha Brames, Anthony, Othmer, Urban, Linus, Ralph, and Leo Schmitt; and granddaughter, Kim Sermersheim.

Caroline is survived by nine children, Rita (Larry) Sermersheim of Huntingburg, Bill (Mary) Wagner of Escondido, Calif., John (Linda) Wagner of San Diego, Calif., Dave (Mona) Wagner of Huntingburg, Susan (Dale) Polen of Huntingburg, Alice (Mike) Giesler of Velpen, Ralph (Polly) Wagner of Ferdinand, Dan (Pam) Wagner of Ireland, and Kenneth (Grace) Wagner of Dale; two siblings, Anna Mae Wagner of Jasper and Richard “Butch” (Betty) Schmitt of Ireland; by 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Caroline Wagner will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5. 2018. A parish rosary prayer vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
