Carol J. Sermersheim, age 81, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012 of cancer at The Waters of Huntingburg.

She was born July 17, 1931 in Huntingburg, Indiana to William and Viola (Souders) Boeglin. Carol was married to Jerome John Sermersheim on May 16, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Carol graduated from Huntingburg High School and Lockyear’s Business College of Evansville.

She worked at Chase Studio of Huntingburg as the business manager and oil coloring specialist for her stepfather and mother, eventually becoming co-owner of the studio along with her brother, Marvin Boeglin. Together they operated the studio until it was sold to Julia Jalles in the late 1990’s.

Carol was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, V.F.W. Post 2366 Auxiliary, Huntingburg Y.M.I. Club, past member of the Professional Photographers of America, the Professional Photographers of Indiana, and the former St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a former Cub Scout Den Mother in Huntingburg as her sons went through the Cub Scout ranks.

She was preceded in death by: her father William Boeglin died in December of 1937 and her mother Viola then married Irving Chase on June 14, 1942; Irving died November 22, 1967 and Viola died May 23, 1994. Her husband, Jerome John Sermersheim, died on September 5, 2001. Also preceding her was a brother, William Boeglin and a step-sister, Vangie Chase-Parker.

She is survived by:

One brother,

  • Marvin (spouse: Jeanette) Boeglin – Huntingburg, IN,

One step-sister,

  • Donna Chase-Blessinger – Huntingburg, IN,

One step-grandson,

  • Rob Sherman – St. Louis, MO

and one step great grandson.

Funeral services for Carol J. Sermersheim will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery (Huntingburg).

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday. A parish rosary prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m., Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality.
