Bridge repairs will hopefully relieve Huntingburg train congestion

Bridge repair near Brunswick, Missouri.

The train bridge outage affecting train traffic in Huntingburg should be fixed today according to Norfolk Southern.

Last week, the city learned that Norfolk Southern had been routing longer trains through the city due to a bridge being washed out near Brunswick, Missouri. To accommodate the bridge outage, Norfolk Southern had been consolidating two trains into one creating trains nearly two miles in length.

The longer trains were rerouted through the train track that passes through Huntingburg subsequently causing traffic issues.

When an engine failure stopped one of these trains on the tracks through Huntingburg last week, it blocked traffic for 2 1/2 hours.

Norfolk Southern Engineering is completing the final repairs today and service across the bridge will be restored, the company said.

Norfolk Southern Operations is evaluating all traffic and train plans and will adjust to accommodate the restored service throughout the day and normal operations are expected to return by midweek.

On a side note, Brunswick is a small town located on the Grand River near the Missouri River. The town has been declared the Pecan Capital of Missouri.
