Bricks from Maple Park School demolition to be offered for fundraiser

As the sections of the Maple Park School continue to come down this week, school officials have decided to set aside several hundred to be sold as a fundraiser.
According to Superintendent Mike Eineman, about 2000 bricks have to be saved from the razed sections to finish the connected section that will remain standing. This section closest to Jackson Street which houses the school corporation offices will remain standing.
The lower sections leading to the baseball field had not been used for anything other than storage since the school closed after the 1998-99 school year when the new Huntingburg Elementary School opened on Sunset Drive. Maple Park Elementary was built in the 50s.
Eineman indicated today they are considering setting aside about 250 bricks to be sold. They could be available next week.
“I don’t know what price they will be,” Eineman said. “They will be set aside so people can pick them up without getting into the construction area.”
Funds raised by the sale of the bricks will benefit Huntingburg Elementary’s RIDGE program — RIDGE is an acronym for Raiders Involved in Daily Growth and Enrichment. It is an after-school program for students in preschool through fifth grade that provides tutoring, meals, and field trips. The program is directed by Sheral Stanton.
