Bretzville Junction roundabout construction update and traffic impacts
Ferdinand Town Council President Ken Sicard issued a notice to the public regarding the Indiana Department of Transportation’s planned construction of a roundabout at Bretzville Junction.
Below is a summary of a meeting hosted by INDOT engineers on plans to construct the roundabout at the Bretzville intersection of State Road 64 and State Road 162.
1. First, all dates are contingent on the weather. Bad weather could affect the dates below.
2. Starting the week of June 28th, signage and temporary traffic signals will be placed on all four roadways leading to the intersection.
3. There will be single-lane traffic through the intersection for both State Road 64 and State Road 162 when construction starts.
4. Speed limits will be reduced on both State Road 64 and State Road 162 near the construction area.
5. Starting on July 7th, the temporary signals and the new single-lane traffic flow will be put into operation. Construction will begin.
6. INDOT will be monitoring all fire departments, police departments and EMS radio frequencies to make sure these units have no delays in getting through the intersection.
7. July 30th – August 3rd, the entire intersection will be completely closed.
There will be no through traffic allowed during this closure.
8. On August 4th, when the intersection opens again, the traffic flow pattern will be in the roundabout configuration.
9. Construction will continue. INDOT will use flaggers to stop traffic when necessary, resulting in delays up to 15 minutes.
If something changes these plans, we will send out a notice as soon as we are informed.
