Bretzville Junction roundabout construction moved to 2026

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced due to the re-engineering of the roundabout planned for Bretzville Junction, construction has been delayed to 2026.

The improvement to the intersection was originally announced in 2022, with plans to open in 2025. Last year, INDOT announced it had planned to begin construction this spring and open the intersection in early 2026.

In a press release about the changes INDOT stated “After reviewing recent engineering innovations, as well as listening to motorists’ feedback on the upcoming Dubois County “Operation: Safe Passage” roundabout, the Indiana Department of Transportation is refining this project’s design to an even more user-friendly roundabout.”

Those improvements include the elimination of the outer curb to create a shoulder to make it easier for large vehicles like farm equipment, box trucks and semi-trucks to navigate.

This will also make the roundabout easier to build, minimizing traffic detours and disruption of utilities in the area, according to INDOT.
