Bolt For The Heart Fun Run raises money for lifesaving devices in state troopers’ patrol cars
The Indiana State Police Jasper Post is calling on runners, walkers, and fitness gurus to help troopers raise funding for “Bolt For the Heart”, a non-profit organization that, since 2015, has been working to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for troopers patrolling Indiana’s roadways.
An AED is a portable electronic unit that is used to assist in diagnosing and treating individuals who are experiencing a possibly life-threatening cardiac episode. The device treats patients with defibrillation to restore a proper heart rhythm. Since the initial deployment of the units in state patrol cars, troopers have used the AED units to save numerous lives.
Participating is as easy as signing up to be a part of our 5K Family Fun Run. To register, simply visit the Bolt For The Heart website by clicking here and sign up. A $20 entry fee will include a 2017 custom finisher medal and commemorative race bib. While the official event will take place on Thursday, November 23, 2017, in Carmel, Indiana, local events are being planned and the opportunity to participate in a “virtual run” is an option.

Since partnering with the Indiana State Police, Bolt For The Heart has purchased more than 200 AED units. As a goal for 2017, Bolt For The Heart wants to raise $300,000, which would purchase 250 additional AEDs to be deployed with troopers statewide.
“We are grateful for the partnership with Bolt For The Heart and appreciate the community support to raise funds for this lifesaving equipment,” First Sergeant Aaric Correll, assistant commander of the Jasper Post, said. “We know everyone has busy schedules, so if you can’t join us on the run date, we hope you’ll consider a donation of any amount to help reach our goal.”
